Indian food & Mushroom Swiss- My favourite Burger King Burger!!

What a tiring day! (TUE)
Was at kembangan another " I haven't heard of it before" place.
YUP east side.

after a long morning, settled for some food nearby kembangan plaza and there was some indian food.
I am so interested to try all the variations of indian food! I realise it's pretty healthy, the ingredients and spices that they use are healthsome!

tried chapatti vegetarian set.
It came with sides of chickpeas n curry.
then some sauce with dunno what kinda rice.

chappati tasted quite healthy, less oily and a wheat taste
I was right!!
I went to google and chapatti is made of whole wheat! no wonder!
INTERESTING!!

haha. i'm always like paranoid. how do I order indian food lol.

After that headed to JEM.
and needed some beef burger to BOOST my energy!
AHA. location really makes a difference.
The first time having such AWESOME mushroom swiss
it's perrrfectly melted and LOTS of mushrooms.
and the sauce together is whee~

different outlets taste diff. the BPP one was dry n bleh
best part it mus be heated until all is melted and see the cheese mushrooms hahah.
SO GOOD!
prob can get a decent crossianwich here. shall try next time.
those other branches cant make it :(

Kovan food centre- lots of cheap n good food!

Kovan food centre

Ventured to heartland mall today..
and just outside the mall there's this hawker centre that sells many many food and cheap! like around $3. Why like around these places the eats are cheaper than west, or isit I seldom explore other parts of SG.

Kovan mrt along the purple line. It's like I haven't even heard of this place before haha.
been here once, last time queued for the famous bar chor mee. it was damn good! the fishballs were really FISH taste haha.

MMM.. actually wanted smth light today, thinking of vegetarian mi fen
but ended up at some teochew mixed rice store.
There was quite a queue there. I thought it's smth special like "teochew" style dishes I seldom try.
And I saw an uncle bought porridge and a decent looking fish I was like OOH shall try!

It's pretty normal mixed rice, nothing fanciful. BUT it really tasted good and not salty and loaded with MSG like those in teck whye. The eggplants was soo soft tender, and beans too. they cook it with basic black bean sauce but it was flavourful enough!
Though still oily like normal mixed rice but the taste is better than norm.

Ordered fish. damn it's $3 haha.
total $5.50 not so economical hehe.
It was cod fish or smth. I like how it's just nice cooked. very tender inside.
And they sell steam fish quite special.

Decent but not taste like heaven food.
tht said, it's mixed rice haha.

did a quick research seems like fishball noodles and kway chap most famous here!

East Ocean Dim Sum (东海)

This brings back childhood memories. I prefer it's old location at the shaw there where there was a wooden staircase leading up, that feeling is so nostalgic. Felt more like the REAL deal haha.

Anyways it has moved to taka since a long time and it's always soo cold here!
The food overall was still ok but isn't as good as it used to be.
Imperial treasure still our family's favourite ( yes we are all food critics sorta haha)
it feels more 精 and light, plus my dad's super sensitive to MSG
he concludes that imperial has almost / no MSG!

most yum cha restaurant load their 萝卜糕with msg.
And my fav part about dim sum is all the baos
ILOVE anything made of flour seems like haha.
but trying to eat less of it now.

anyways
there are some good eats here. Like the oyster porridge which u cant find at imperial

oysters are plump and good!
but the soup is kinda watery and not as flavourful

soy sauce fried noodles
a Hong Kong classic
missed this dish so it was good to be
but not the best chow mien for a restaurant standard
abit dry.. but really like the crunchy sprouts!

the turnip cake was pan fried crisp and nice. but salty after a while.

粉果 I dislike this dish and normally dun eat it
but i like their version
smooth skin and filled with peanuts, water chestnut and some meat
not my kinda food/ dim sum choice but this was a good version :)

OOHH highlight was custard bao!
the custard was the best part!!

it was kinda grainy, sweet, salty balanced!!
unlike the crystal jade ones which is very watery.

however, the bao skin was very thick and substandard, hard.
my dad even spit it out haha.

Tuna Sub My fave

 tuna sub!!

This is like the only thing i order from subway.
I LOVE Tuna and cheese
i used to eat it everyday at school.

And the standard is diff every time ordering subway
sumtimes the bread is stale
sumtimes the cheese is not melted
blah blah. and I cant always get the perfect sub

I like cheese melted in tuna
previously had honey mustard as fav but recently found is overwhelmingly sweet

chose red wine vingerette this time
not bad!
it tasted very light with the veggies like a salad
I like how there were loadsa veggies things time
but the tuna was really dry and thick blehh
should totally homemake sandwiches
I've been saying this for ages haha.

honey oat bread was ok this time
the worst one is whole wheat
it was so stale and hard.

parmesan oregano is interesting and slightly salty I like it!
even subway alone, or a tuna sub alone there's so many diff varieties, sauces , combinations to explore!

so far tried
honey mustard, red wine, ranch is pretty good too. like a thick milky sauce
sweet onion is too sweet!

wanna try steak n cheese nxt time :)

Putien Cod Fish Specialty House

A very good place to settle some family dinner :)
My family calls it the 山顶 "hilltop" place. It is kinda uphill just right oppostie Phoenix LRT station.
Never thought there would be such good food here.
It's like family business and all are so friendly, taste very home style and WAAY better than those  teck whye zi char store.
Basically NO msg and all the dishes were so far so good :)

Their specialty is cod fish so yupp. It's really good! Had cod fish soup last time. and they are quite generous with the servings. and the fish is so fleshy.

This time tried ala carte.
Their signature bee hoon is good! 兴化米粉
unlike normal fried bee hoon where it's completely dry i like how there's some broth the bottom is kinda  moist . Plus it's very interesting, topped with some salted seaweed and peanuts. Some bits of clam and prawn as well. Just what i wanted, smth light after the curry this lunch.

I like how they have very special dishes and i find it so intriguing hehe.
The salted egg yolk spare ribs was surprisingly good!
At first thought the combination sounds weird but the taste was good, subtle sweetness with some savoury salted egg
lightly fried crisp on outside and tender inside. and it's so good to eat it while it's hot!

ohoh. Another must mention is their specialty drinks!
They have different drinks for different days.
And they are totally homemade and u cant find them at normal coffeeshop.
My mom tried passionfruit last time
this time it was this very special green drink, tasted like guava plus some veggie
couldnt figure out so we asked the boss haha.
Apparently it's called ba-long-long
With sour plum added and the taste is sour, sweet very refreshing fruit juice like!

SOINTERESTING!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spondias_dulcis
It's only called balonglong in SG
called kedondong in Indonesia
and  沙梨 in chinese.
Never heard of it before!
OH new discovery haha.

did some research hehe
http://simplybeautifulhealthyliving.blogspot.sg/2014/03/refreshing-ampula-juice-and-its-health.html
Wow didnt know it's so full of benefits!

The best part about this place it gives a very warm and home feel, and the hilltop spot is not as hot as normal coffee shop
Decent food with fresh taste, not those other places like your mouth will feel full of salt and MSG
Quite a variety and special dishes u cant find elsewhere
Cod fish is a must try! even if u eat a tiny piece cod fish outside its damn ex.
So a soup 锅 for like $30 is quite fair.

Not bad, Some hidden gems in the neighbourhood :)
Waay better than restaurant 乐天 Paradise Inn @ Ten Mile

Teban Gardens Briyani

Let me entice you with a picture first..

Mutton biryani with extra sauce :)
Looks like some picture from a restaurant menu right. It's just from the good old coffeeshop!

was actually planning to head down to IMM ah mei café wanting some malay/ indian food today. They have very decent prata, wanted to try their rice set. anyways ..Took bus 143 from my dance place but was too hungry to wait till reach Jurong East. So.. when the bus went pass teban gardens and the hawker seems good I hopped off the bus!

and conclusion is u can get decent biryani food though the hawker stores seem so 冷清
i guess cuz there's a mosque around so there's a whole row of muslim food at the back.
Walked one round and settled for some malay food.

I have started to explore and like malay food since recently. It's like my family nvr ate mutton or whatever they didn't dare to try, I thought it's not our thing for Cantonese.
But after trying mutton for the first time i'm hooked on it.
& I ABSOLUTELY LOVE BRIYANI RICE
I didn't know what it's called and use to call it " the coloured rice" haha.

Conclusion: Rice was flavourful, sauce was good ( asked for extra), refreshing cucumber pineapple sides. Mutton was soft and chewy but a tad too spicy for me. Portion was big. Ate alott of rice.
Overall :4/5

Suprising good and random find :)
